Testing Interscience in Understanding and Tackling Disaster Risk

چکیده
Efforts in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) are widely geared towards integrating indigenous knowledge and science. Several conceptual frameworks have thus evolved co-creating co-designing DRR measures from the standpoint of communities-at-risk. This is claimed to foster optimization sustainability measures. study tests effectiveness this argument based on case floods Rwenzori, western Uganda, where a mismatch noted between research, policy, action. A protocol was developed stimulate dialogue co-creation among participants three stakeholder groups: scientists, policymakers, Beyond convergence some participants, equitable deliberations were observed different stakeholders. enabled processes: coalescing proposed measures, emergence hybrid worldviews, co-design alternative options. The co-designed options fall within contemporary conceptualization nature-based solutions sustainability. meant that they adoptable optimizable over time by constructive integration favored attributes: overlaps theorizations processes, embracing diversity ontological values, self-critiques policymakers. متن کاملTackling the Zombie Apocalypse: Sensemaking in Simulated Disaster Management
In this paper, we report the design of a simulated disaster management exercise that is used to explore the manner in which teams of emergency responders make sense of unfamiliar, dynamic situations. The paper develops a notion of sensemaking that combines semantic (i.e., extracting meaning from cues in the environment) and pragmatic (i.e., recognising opportunities for courses of action). This...
متن کاملCredit Risk and Disaster Risk
Credit spreads are large, volatile and countercyclical, and recent empirical work suggests that risk premia, not expected credit losses, are responsible for these features. Building on the idea that corporate debt, while fairly safe in ordinary recessions, is exposed to economic depressions, this paper embeds a trade-off theory of capital structure into a real business cycle model with a small,...
متن کاملRisk, Hazard, and Disaster
Natural hazard research began as a study of cultural perceptions to extreme naturally occurring events. Since the advent of the study, natural hazard literature has become steeped in terminology that is sometimes confusing to the reader. The concepts of hazard, risk, and disaster are often confused with one another and with the extreme event itself. Although the extreme event is inherent in haz...
متن کاملDisaster risk assessment pattern in higher education centers
Disasters are one of the most important challenges which must be considered by every management system. Higher education centers have high disaster risk because of their risk factors (existence of historical and scientific documents and resources and expensive laboratory equipment in these centers emphasizes the importance of disaster management). Moreover, the existence of young volunteers of ...
